I’ve been watching the documentary on Netflix called “the social dilemma” and while it has done a great job so far of addressing the overreach of tech companies and the sinister nature of them, there was a part in which they mentioned pizzagate (am I allowed to talk about this?? Am I going to get downvoted into oblivion lol)
But anyway, they basically implied that anyone who bought into it was stupid by drawing a parallel between flat earthers and people who believe pizzagate. I’ve been knowing about it for years and seen too much to not believe in it, and I just found it really rich coming from the same platform that made “cuties.” Idk what the common opinion on Reddit is about this, but I believe entirely that child sex trafficking goes on behind closed doors in Hollywood and in political arenas. So I just thought it was really sus for them to address pizzagate in a documentary about the negative consequences of social media and its algorithms. They could have easily left it out but they just HAD to include a few minute segment about it.
I hope this is the appropriate sub to post this in but I just had to talk about it somewhere, this lowkey got my blood boiling.
Important edit: it seems they brought it up to make a point in how the algorithms are “biased towards false information.” Interesting how they used the word “false” instead of just saying “more clickbait-y” or something like that. Everyone knows about clickbait but not all clickbait is false. Sketchy af
Another edit: they’ve started talking about “covid misinformation” now lol I should have known. Damn it was going great until now
TL;DR “the social dilemma” on Netflix is a massive propaganda piece to keep you thinking inside the box disguised as a humanitarian message about the dangers of social media. It instantly reverts from the original message of “social media is changing everything and hurting us” to “don’t think for yourself because you’re probably looking at wrong information.” From “technology is affecting our mental health, invading our privacy, and disconnecting us from humanity” to “technology is giving us misinformation that is harmful” as if there is any real degree of comparison between those two things. Wasted potential to actually help people.
