Years after starting University (Civil engineering) it finally hit me how crazy the high school system was.
For some background I went to an upper middle class school and graduated in 2017
Their where rules for everything, class scedule set by a computer, not allowed to question authority figures exe. We where in the system by a student number instead of a name, and all treated like a cogg in a machine. Our only end goal every year was to memorize enough information at the end of the year to pass standardized testing in order to secure more funding for the next year. even after we passed all out tests to graduate we still had to take them for "statistical reasons." Instead of spending our senior year learning life skills to transisiton us to college, working or trade school we where stuck learning about why a 400 year old play uses the words that it does... and than you guessed it take a test on it!
Doing research, may students have similar experiences if not worse in schools, they feel dehumanized and as a result unmotivated to archive to their best potential. They are taught to follow the rules without question and to memorize "facts" instead of question why things are the way they are.
I am curious to here your guys experiences / opinions on the current form of schooling and the potential consequences of it.
