Ukraine, as it stands, is so corrupt that its main purpose as a state is to launder money for the West in some overarching racketeering scheme. By 'the West' I mean some of the most powerful politicians that need a way to covertly wash their embezzled funds.

It seems that a move was made to capitalize off the collapse of the USSR by various intelligence agencies working in tandem with certain agents within the KGB that care more for money and power than trivialities of nationalism, through the vapid exchange of prisoners and double agents.

They were the first to realize the inevitable collapse of their overstretched society and decided to siphon all they could in the process. The extreme power placed in these agents by their respective states allowed them to move the pieces in position for when the USSR implodes. A group of agents, and their puppet politicians, set down their flags for mutual financial gain.

Realizing what lucrative ventures await following the collapse of an empire, the group of agents set their sights on the next great empire, the USA.

The actions taken by this 'group' involved buying up land, controlling the natural resources, as well as the food supply and logistics through shell companies and fronts. In this way, they are not financially affected by the economic bereavement that comes with a collapse of a nation. The fiat will become worthless but the physical holdings of this organization actually gain value. They will be able to decide the fate of millions.
