What appears to be a map stitching error in the overlay, means that what is underneath the overlay can be seen.
What appears to be landmass, or ice, is clearly visible in the below video.

This raises a couple of interesting points:
- If it is landmass, then why does the landmass not appear on the overall map?
- Even if it isn't landmass, and is instead, cloud cover, we have been led to believe that no satellite imagery or data for this area exists, which is obviously not true. If there is truly nothing there, then why the secrecy?
EDIT:
Here is the section of the map where the overlay appears to not stitch together correctly. You can barely make out the stitching error here, travelling vertically from the centre of the map, to the top.

Utilising the History feature on the desktop version of Google Earth pro, you can go back through time and see what this area has looked like over the years.

In the above, and below pictures, you can see that they have been using the same overlay, that shows the same data for well over a decade.
