I recently tried transferring and IRA to a different bank. The process was so frustrating and difficult, and took weeks. They want you to keep your money there and I think they make the process so ridiculous so people will just cancel their transfers.

First the bank I was going to sent paperwork over the the bank I wanted to transfer from. After two weeks the bank that sent the paperwork said they hadn't heard back and to call the other bank. I called on my lunch break and it took my whole lunch break verifying identity and such for her to tell me that she can't tell me anything and I need to go into a branch. When I got there the guy just called another guy and asked if he had the paperwork and the other guy said no. There was no reason for me to have to physically come in for that. They are just hoping you won't have timor desire to go to a physical location and just give up.
